Tracking
Fairmile didn't record a drive
Open Settings in Fairmile and check the tracking row. It should say “Tracking: All good”. If it doesn't, tap it to see what's missing. Fairmile needs Location set to Always with Precise Location on, and Motion & Fitness allowed. Low Power Mode and no signal can also stop a drive from being recorded.
How does Fairmile start a drive on its own?
In Fairmile, go to Settings › Connect your car. It walks you through a one-time Shortcuts automation that tells Fairmile to start a drive when your iPhone connects to CarPlay or your car's Bluetooth. After that you don't need to open the app.
Does it drain my battery?
Fairmile uses GPS while a drive is in progress and for a short while after it ends, in case you set off again. It doesn't track your location the rest of the time.
The distance is different from my odometer
Fairmile measures the route with GPS, which can differ slightly from your car's odometer, especially in tunnels or with weak signal. Open the drive to check its route on the map.
Reports and rates
Which countries and rates are supported?
The United States (IRS standard mileage rate), Canada (CRA automobile allowance rates), the United Kingdom (HMRC Approved Mileage Allowance Payments), Ireland (Revenue Civil Service mileage rates), Australia (ATO cents per kilometre) and New Zealand (IRD kilometre rates). Choose yours in Settings › Tax country.
How do I export my log?
Open the Reports tab, choose the period, then export. A spreadsheet (CSV) is free; the PDF report and emailing it to your accountant are part of Pro. Drives you haven't reviewed are left out of the report, so sort them first.
Is Fairmile's report accepted by my tax authority?
Reports include the details tax authorities typically ask for: date, start and end, distance, purpose and the rate used. Requirements depend on your situation, so check with your accountant or tax authority. Fairmile isn't tax advice.
Fairmile Pro
How do I restore Pro on a new iPhone?
Sign in with the same Apple ID, then open Fairmile › Settings › Restore purchases.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions › Fairmile. Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I have an offer code
Open Fairmile › Settings › Redeem a code and enter it there.
Your data
Where are my drives stored?
Only on your iPhone. They are included in your iPhone's iCloud or computer backup if you use one. See our Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Delete any drive by swiping it in the Drives tab or from the drive's page. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone.
