2026 IRS mileage calculator
IRS standard mileage rates as of October 24, 2026.
The 2026 rates
| Business miles driven | Rate | Announced |
|---|---|---|
| January 1 to June 30, 2026 | 72.5¢ | IR-2025-128 |
| July 1 to December 31, 2026 | 76¢ | IR-2026-29 |
| All of 2025, for comparison | 70¢ | IR-2024-312 |
The IRS raised the business rate part way through 2026. Miles you drove through June 30 count at 72.5¢ and miles from July 1 at 76¢, so the date of each drive decides its rate.
What your log needs
IRS Publication 463 asks for records kept at or near the time of each drive. For every business drive:
- The date
- Where you went
- The business purpose
- The miles
For the year, your total miles for all driving, business and personal. Odometer readings on January 1 and December 31 give you that figure. Driving between home and your regular workplace is commuting, not business.
Parking and tolls
Parking fees and tolls on business drives are deducted on top of the standard mileage rate. Parking at your regular place of work isn't. Keep the receipts.
Fairmile
Fairmile logs every drive on its own, sorts business from personal and splits 2026 at July 1 for you. At the end of the year you get a PDF with every figure on this page.
This calculator estimates the standard mileage deduction for business use of a car you own or lease. It isn't tax advice; your tax professional can tell you what applies to you.
